Danny Cowley, was appointed as manager of English Football Championship Side Huddersfield Town last week
Ironically his first game in charge was against Sheffield Wednesday, just a few days after he turned down… Wednesday!
However the reason he turned down Sheffield Wednesday is now apparent, because he was in the process of rubber stamping his move to Huddersfield Town from Lincoln City
Cowley, along with his brother Nicky, are emerging as a top rated and very talented managerial team, who began life in management at non league Concord Rangers in the Essex Senior Football League, where they spent 8 successful years ands their first match was watched by just over 50 people…
Contrast that to this Sundays first match in charge of Huddersfield, which had an attendance of over 20,000 more on this later
From Concord Rangers he moved to Braintree Town in National League South, where he spent a year guiding Braintree to 3rd place in that league and qualifying for the play off final, which sadly over two legs they lost to Grimsby Town
This success however, brought him to the attention of Lincoln City then in the National League, and in his first season in charge of Lincoln, guided them back into the English Football League, after a six year absence and winning the National League in the process.
During that season Lincoln became the first non league side to reach the FA Cip Quarter Finals, losing to Arsenal 5 0, but on the way claimed the scalps of
Ipswich Town, Brighton and Hove Albion and Burnley, who they beat at Turf Moor, courtesy of this goal from Sean Raggett, Now at Portsmouth
Lincolns first season in league 2, was a good one, with them finishing a creditable 7th place .
However, the following season they went one better, by winning league 2 and thus returning to League 1, for the first time since 1999
It has certainly capped a meteoric rise for the both the club, as well as raising the profiles of Danny and Nicky Cowley.
so much so they have now been appointed as the management team at Huddersfield Town.
