Portsmouth Thrash UCD

Portsmouth FC are currently on a Pre Season Tour to Ireland.On the 11th July, they played UCD (University College Dublin )  a well know name in Irish Football.

Before the game,Portsmouth Manager Kenny Jackett had said that he didn’t know what type of team UCD would put out, but he expected that they would use the workout much like Portsmouth Intended to, with Pre Season friendlies , which was to give game time to as many members of the Portsmouth Squad as he could

Portsmouth took a strong squad to Ireland, which included some youngsters, highly rated at Fratton Park, with the intention being to see how they fared in a ‘mans environment’ compared to academy football

As Kenny Jackett said …

I intend to play 2 teams, one in each half, to get the minutes into the team


Come the game itself, Portsmouth absolutely ran riot, fielding a strong team from the off, which included wantaway winger Jamal Lowe they raced into a 4-0 lead at half time. Impressive stats for a pre season friendly by anyones standards

Portsmouth then made 11 changes, which included Brett Pitman, the team captain,  coming on and he promptly sored a 20 minute hat trick, not bad for a player, many have already written off

Ronan Curtis, and Louis Dennis scored twice, while Jamal Lowe also found the back of the net

Other scorers were

Gareth Evans, Joe Hancott and Ben Close, to make it an emphatic 11~0 rout

Afterwards Kenny Jackett said that the workout had been a useful one

Certainly, with the noises coming out of the camp at the moment, this game has laid down a marker,for the upcoming campaign, one in which Portsmouth will want to get promoted and are mentally preparing themselves now for the opening game of the season, against Shrewsbury, when the real bread and butter starts.
